You are probably thinking one of three things after viewing the photo I selected to post above: 1. Its hot in California and she must have sat out in the sun to long. 2. Why did she take a photo of her bras? NO, they are not mine, I viewed them in the museum in Quebec. They were in an exhibit of early industry in Quebec. We actually visited the bra and girdle factory where they were manufactured which has been renovated into of all things, an art school. 3. I don't want to paint bras.
Well, as we approach the 3 day weekend ahead and the official end of the summer season, I had an educational objective in mind when I chose this photo. I was thinking that some of you are putting the lazy days of summer behind you and are invigorated to begin painting again. So I was thinking how can I help you find new and different subject matter to paint? By choosing a subject you would not normally choose to paint? By looking at the images you are choosing from and seeing not their subject, but their patterns, shapes and values? By urging you to bite off more then you usually chew and try to paint and/or draw something that stretches your abilities or challenges you?
Before you change the channel, ask yourself, "Do I want to reinvigorate my painting subjects? Let me know your answer and send me a scan of your next painting if you painted something out of the box......
