Netherlands Barge and Sketch Tour at Tulip Time

You are invited along next Spring to experience the wonders of the Netherlands, while cruising on a 20 passenger barge filled with like minded thoughtful travelers. The barge will be exclusively filled with our Anywhere Art Group. Our barge, pictured above, has been newly restored for passengers with the comforts of 2 person rooms with ensuite bathrooms, a community room to relax in complete with a mini bar and coffee/tea service. You’ll eat your breakfasts and dinners daily in the barge dinning room, as well as two lunches, all included. Your meals are prepared and served to you by the barge’s chef and crew. You can also enjoy the open air on the outdoor deck on the top level.

Your trip will begin in Amsterdam, where you will be picked up by our chauffered bus on the morning of April 6, 2024. Enroute to our barge our bus will take a to visit a dune filled local beach where we can wander as well as sketch and paint, then you’ll lunch at a traditional Dutch Pancake restaurant. You’ll meet our captain and crew and explore your floating home for the next 7 nights. You’ll dine on the boat later that evening.

The next day, April 7th, while barging to Haarlem you can enjoy the scenery. In Haarlem you will explore the sights and do a quick sketch with your art teacher, Barbara Roth. If you want to capture what inspires you to paint later you can snap some photos. In case of rain, we have a fine plan to visit the Frans Hals Museum.

On the morning of April 8th, you will have the amazing opportunity to visit the Keukenhof Park where almost 7 million bulbs are planted every year. We’ll take tons of photos of this extraordinary spectacle of the blooming tulips of every variety. You’ll lunch at one of the pavillions in Keukenhof. After lunch, you’ll travel to nearby fields to paint the tulips! After painting you’ll hop on the barge and journey to Leiden, your home town for the night. There will be time for an after-dinner walk in Leiden.

After breakfast on April 9th, we will be able to explore Leiden and paint. Rembrandt was born in Leiden! Later you will hop on our bus and travel to Delft, the home of another famous Dutch painter, Vermeer. The Renaissance Town square in Delft will be an excellent spot to paint.

The morning of April 10, you’ll barge to Rotterdam and explore the town. You can stroll to the Pilgrims Church and and see where the Pilgrims said their last prayers before they left for the new world. We’ll return to the boat for lunch and paint the view of of the tranquil canal lined with canal boats and more. In the late after noon you’ll travel on our bus to Gouda where your barge will be moored.

You’ll want to visit a cheese shop during our time in Gouda on April 11, to sample and shop. We’ll be in Gouda on Market day and experience all of the activity. You’ll lunch on the boat while you enjoy the ever changing landscape enroute to Amsterdam.

On April 12, after breakfast you’ll travel to the Kroller Mueller Museum om the eastern part of the country for a guided tour. This museum holds a large private collection of Van Gogh paintings and is located in a dense forest! Back on the barge we will enjoy a farewell dinner and savour our last night on the barge.

On April 13, there will be a group transfer to Schiphol airport for those of you returning home or off to another destination.

Cost for this tour is $3,750 per person for lodging in a shared room, tours, transportation, all breakfasts and dinners + two lunches.
